There was a further report of vandalism on the 177 service soon after.

All 177 services via Maidstone Road to Burma Way were diverted away from the area until 3.30pm.

Arriva has said Luton Road and Wayfield Road recieved no buses due to “the dangers posed to passengers and drivers” and that they were “left with no choice.”

The buses have since been running without any reports and Arriva has reported the incidents to police.

George Tsangarides, district general operations manager, said: “Fortunately, there were no injuries, but this type of behaviour is something we completely condemn.

“We should not have to say that throwing anything at a bus is unacceptable and dangerous, but sadly we do.

“Our bus drivers are doing an important job connecting people and they’re mothers, fathers, friends and neighbours.

“An attack on them is an attack on your community and a huge threat to their safety and the safety of our passengers.”
