Network Rail worker taken ill at Maidstone West suspends trains between Paddock Wood and Strood

A train service has been suspended after a railway worker was taken ill.

Services between Paddock Wood and Strood are unable to run after a medical incident at Maidstone West resulted in a staff shortage.

At 7.55pm Southeastern confirmed on Twitter that a member of Network Rail's signalling staff was unwell.

It said: "A member of signalling staff has been taken ill at Maidstone West and trains are unable to run between Paddock Wood and Strood.

"A replacement signaller is on the way, but services are suspended until 10pm.

"We have arranged for tickets to be accepted on Arriva's route 7 between Tonbridge and Maidstone West.

"We are also working to arrange replacement transport for other stations."
