MANAGER Alan Pardew demanded a steely response from his players at Cardiff on Tuesday after the Addicks slumped to a second heavy home defeat in five days at The Valley against Burnley on Saturday.

"We're all deeply disappointed" he said. "We got ourselves in a great position with the four straight wins in November and now we've made it hard for ourselves.

"This week has knocked us back and what's more we've gifted the oppostion goals.

"The levels of concentration have slipped and that resilience which you have to show away from home we've not shown at The Valley.

"We conceded two soft goals after a bright opening against Burnley. Once Andy Reid scored I thought we started to look ourselves again.

"We forced the game in a disciplined way and I thought we would get something from it until Danny Mills, for reasons known only to himself handled the ball.

"Now we go to Cardiff needing a positive response, which is not an ideal situation

"But we have enough good players to do that."

Mills had a match to forget after turning Robbie Blake's seventh minute free kick into his own goal.

Blake was also the architect for Burnley's second when his free-kick was headed in by Chris McCann.

Reid raised Charlton spirits with a spectacular goal in the 37th minute before Mills inexplicably handled in the 70th minute and Andy Gray converted the resulting penalty.
