4 held over burglary at engineering firm

A MAN and three youths from Medway have been arrested on suspicion of burglary at an engineering company on Sheppey last week.

Police say that at about 5am on last Friday officers on patrol saw two vehicles, a Ford Fiesta and a Mercedes Sprinter van, acting suspiciously in Ridham Dock Road at Iwade, near Sittingbourne.

When the officers approached these vehicles and attempted to stop them, both vehicles were driven away from the scene.

Following a short pursuit, the Fiesta is believed to have crashed and the driver and passenger, both 17-year-old boys from Gillingham, were arrested and taken to Sittingbourne Police Station.

The Mercedes van was also later found crashed but the occupants had fled the scene.

The van is believed to have earlier been stolen from an engineering firm on Lower Road, Minster, near Sheerness, along with a computer tower unit, a generator, a safe and a number of keys. These items have yet to be recovered.

A 23-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy from Gillingham, believed to be the occupants of the van, were arrested this morning. They are currently being questioned by police at Sittingbourne Police Station

The 17-year-olds were bailed to Sittingbourne Police Station today, pending further enquiries.
